Lifetime (What Women Do)
Once when I was eight
I thought could be
Anything that I
Wanted to be.
Then my mother left
Left me all alone
To figure out that
I could always be wrong.
First I count to ten.
Then I think
Of all the time I’ve left.
It’s a lifetime. It’s a lifetime. It’s a lifetime. It’s my lifetime.
The first girl I met,
She said she loved me.
And I found it so easy
To say it back.
The second girl I met,
She said the same thing.
So did the third and fourth.
It just keeps going.
First I count to ten.
Then I think
Of all the time I’ve left.
It’s a lifetime. It’s a lifetime. It’s a lifetime. It’s my lifetime.
Just a week ago
My Grandma passed away.
She helped raise me.
Made me who I am today.
And the strange thing
Is I did not cry.
I just understood
That it was her time.
First I count to ten.
Then I think
Of all the time I’ve left.
It’s a lifetime. It’s a lifetime. It’s a lifetime. It’s my lifetime.
